Cynthia Star is a Portland-based artist who prioritizes collaboration, learning and building friendships.
Cynthia has 20 years of experience fabricating and leading puppet crews for the world of stop-motion animation. She has put together crews and studio spaces for Laika Studios, Shadow Machine Studio, and Bent.
Her path has led her to work with children teaching them stop-motion animation in various schools and museums; as well as recently starting a micro-school for 2nd graders in her backyard.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Cynthia recently fell in love with the idea of combining Social Practice through the therapeutic motion of weaving on a floor loom.
Sharing the Shuttle is a collaborative weaving project that balances intuitive making with the therapeutic benefits of weaving.
Cynthia Star is a recent graduate of the Applied Craft+Design MFA program through Pacific Northwest College of Art.
