Cynthia Star is an interdisciplinary artist who moves between her own art practice of painting and papier-mâché, the professional world of stop-motion animation and fabrication, and creating an educational space for youth that encompasses animation as at tool to learn about the world.
Cynthia has 20 years experience fabricating and leading puppet crews for the world of stop-motion animation. She has put together crews and studio spaces for Laika Studios, Shadow Machine Studio, and Bent.
Cynthia’s art work has hung in the Portland Art Museum, Disjecta, and galleries in Istanbul,Turkey.
Cynthia’s path as an educator has led her to work with children teaching them stop-motion animation in Homer, Alaska as well as Portland, Oregon.
At present, Cynthia Star is a candidate for the Applied Craft+Design MFA program through Pacific Northwest college of Art.
